Air Belgium (KF/ABB)

  • And it's airborne: https://www.flightradar24.com/ABB851/11a1429d

The first (or second*) commercial flight of Air Belgium towards Hong Kong is airborne and underway! Air Belgium held some festivities at the airport of Charleroi (see: https://twitter.com/airbelgium_off) and only few minutes ago, the first commercial"* AB-flight towards Hong Kong left Charleroi/Brussels South Airport.

    * Air Belgium did fly last Sunday to Hong Kong. It was also flight ABB851. On board were only 15 passengers, but mr. Terzakis said then that it was only "a technical flight" to test everything and make sure that everything is going smooth today.

  • Fun fact: antoher journalist of the same site said on their forum too that there were only 65 passengers on board of the flight rather than 100. Still no loadfactor of the return flight. AB is lucky that U-tour is going to work with them, this may lead to almost full planes from HKG to CRL in a couple of months...

  • Whether 65 or 100 PAX onboard, doesn't make too much of a difference anyway. I still belive that marketing/promotion activities started far too late which is also reflected by the carrier's downsizing of its initial schedule (currently two return flights/week only). In case, the deal with Chinese agency U-Tour will materialize, this seems to become a potentially sound basis for further development... Keep fingers cossed!

  • Strange to see this such early as in Belgian media it was always said that they would start first 4 Chinese destinations with their 4 A343's and if that would work out they would start looking for American destinations (but that was like 2 or 3 years after the start-up), and an expansion of the fleet in the form of A350's or B777's.

  • Could be, I didn't find anything on such an issue however. I really don't understand why they would do so. All their flights to Hong Kong are on reduced frequency until October. it seems to me that you should try rather first to secure your position on one market before jumping to another market...
